AN OPTIONAL CONTENT INDEX

Check your llms.txt without the hype.

Check whether your website provides a readable llms.txt index and understand what this optional convention does.

An llms.txt file is a proposed way to point AI tools toward useful website content. It can be a concise guide to your pages, but it is not a universal AI ranking requirement.

What a useful file contains

A short business description, a link to your main offering, relevant documentation, an About page and a contact page can make the file useful to a reader or a tool that chooses to use it. Keep the links current and public.

What CMB checks

The scanner requests /llms.txt, distinguishes plain text from an HTML fallback, and checks for a heading and links. It reports presence and basic readability. Its absence is an optional recommendation, with no score penalty.

What it does not replace

Your normal HTML content, robots.txt, sitemap, canonical URLs and structured data still need to work. Do not place confidential information in llms.txt; it is a public file.

A common question

Will llms.txt make ChatGPT recommend my business?+

There is no such guarantee. Adoption varies and providers do not promise ranking improvements from the file. We recommend it only as a useful supplementary index.
